There are no Malayalam movies releasing in theatres in Coimbatore. This is a direct consequence of the Mullaiperiyar dam controversy that’s troubling the two states – Kerala and TamilNadu.
In my opinion, the controversy is unnecessary and is detrimental to both states – in particular to Kerala (more on this in a later post). It is also sad that creative fields such as movies is being held hostage by a few who seem to have political ambitions. I am not sure if a similar ban exists on the Kerala side but it is sad that TamilNadu’s movie makers/exhibitors are adopting such a stance.
I have no problems in politicians or people agitating, but there should not be any ban on activity – be it official or unofficial.
